Product Knowledge | Common Lock And Latch Types
Tubular
Lower tier mechanism. 28 or 45 degree rotation. Passage or privacy with pin. Typical backsets are 2-3/8” and 2-3/4”.
Cylindrical
Non loaded latch. See Schlage.
Mortise Full Body
Higher tier mechanism as well as exterior, high security doors on lower tier projects. Wide array of functions are available. Typical backsets are 2-1/2” and 2-3/4”, but many others are available.
Mortise Narrow Body
Same as mortise, but for doors with a narrow stile. Limited functions. Requires lever trim. Typical backsets are 1-1/2”, 1-1/4”, 1-3/4”, 2”, and 2-1/4”.
Mortise Interior
Smaller size than typical mortise, yet maintains higher tier quality. Limited functions. Most skeleton key locks are interior mortise. Typical backsets are 2-1/2” and 2-3/4” with few others available.
Mortise Screen
Similar to interior mortise, but intended for thin doors. Functions are limited to passage, privacy, patio, and occasionally, entry. Typical backsets are 1-1/2”, 1-3/4”, 2”, and 2-1/2”.
Rim Lock
Surface mount trim and lock body for very distinct aesthetic statement. For security reasons, we suggest using a faux rim lock paired with a standard mortise lock.
Cremone
Predecessor to the multi-point mechanism. Bolts extend up into the head and down into the floor/sill.
Mortise European
Similar to interior mortise, but with a difference setup (European). In most European markets the locks come with the door and are all entry/privacy function. The trim used dictates how the lock operates. Typical backsets are 55mm, 60mm, 65mm, and 70mm.
Multi-Point
Rather than just one latch extended horizontally, there are three or more bolts extending horizontally and two bolts moving vertically. Levers are required for this type of lock.
