Butt Hinges

Most common type of hinge. Things to consider: barrel shape and size, knuckle quantity, swaged, size (width x height), gauge, screw pattern, corners.

Plain Bearing

Ball Bearing

Wide Throw

Non-Removable Pin

Lift Off/Paumelle

Hinge Tip, Finial

Threads into top and bottom of butt hinge barrel. Easily customizable. Often the least expensive way to include an additional accent to a project.

Olive Knuckle

Paumelle-type hinge with oval knuckle.

Handed.

Adjustable

Deep hinge allowing slight adjustment of door both vertically and horizontally.

Typically supplied with a multi-point door. There are an extremely limited number of options as most come with the door. Finials cannot be used. Meant to accommodate settling and slight swelling of material.

Center Hung Pivot

Pivot point is in the middle of the door thickness, hardware is not visible.

Requires rounding of hinge end of door or jamb. Typically allows for movement in both directions.

Offset Pivot

Pivot point is kicked out past the exterior face of the doors.

Door receives the same treatment as a butt hinge. A knuckle is visible at the top and bottom of the door. Various offsets, floor options, and door undercut. Single direction. May contain an intermittent hinge depending on door dimensions.

Harmon

Door is permitted to rotate around the edge of the casing.

Requires precise machining. May contain a roller latch integral in the hinge for a positive stop in either the open or closed position.

Concealed

Used on jib doors.
